Bruce Thierry Cheung

Directing Faculty

Bruce is a director of photography with a background in design and art. 

Before pursuing film, Bruce was an architect at Studio Daniel Libeskind where he designed several projects, including a redevelopment of downtown Seoul and a wind-powered art center in Germany.

As an MFA student in Film at NYU, he served as a Department Fellow and a Teaching Assistant for Spike Lee. 

In 2010, he helped launch Opening Ceremony TV, an award winning fashion film agency. He has shot several high profile fashion films for Kenzo, Agnes B, Opening Ceremony, and Target. One of the projects he directed, "Step, Clap, Go!" was a viral hit and at a finalist for the 2012 Vimeo Awards. 

Bruce is also a frequent collaborator of James Franco, serving as his cinematographer on commercials for Gucci, Samsung, and Stuart Weitzman as well as the upcoming feature films BUKOWSKI (2014) and THE SOUND AND THE FURY (2014.)

His short film, "Each Moment is the Universe," shot on the road in Thailand, was recently featured in Dazed and Confused magazine and screened at the Tribeca Film Festival.
